About

WHO WE ARE

Since 1965, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Louisiana (BGCSELA) have provided children with a constructive way to spend their afternoons through effective programming led by a qualified staff. BGCSELA operates five units and serves hundreds of young people through club activities and programs.

Club membership is available to anyone between the ages of 6 and 18. Our clubs are staffed with full-time professional leaders who work to prepare our youth for the future. We recognize and respond to the collective and individual needs of young people by utilizing educational and recreational programs that have proven effective for many years. Our clubs are non-sectarian and have an open-door policy to ALL members during regular hours of operation. We assure that all young people can afford to belong, by keeping membership dues low, so no one will be deterred from joining.

WHAT WE DO

BGCSELA provides diversified activities that meet the interests of all young people. Core programs involve interaction with adults, peers, and family members to encourage high self-esteem and strong collaboration skills. We help boys and girls make appropriate and satisfying choices in their physical, educational, personal, and social lives.

On the basis of these developmental principles, BGCSELA offers program activities in five areas:

Character and Leadership Development

Members are empowered to support and influence their club and community, sustain meaningful relationships, develop a positive self-image, participate in the democratic process and respect their own and others’ cultural identities. Members also develop leadership skills and are provided opportunities for planning, decision-making, and celebrating our national heritage.

Education and Career Development

Members receive help with homework and are taught valuable skills from computer technology to driving techniques.  Organizations such as UPS and Old Navy have provided programming to help our members prepare for the workforce.

Health and Life Skills

Members engage in positive behaviors that nurture their well-being. They are taught to set personal goals and are armed with skills to live successfully as self-sufficient adults.

The Arts

Members develop their creativity and cultural awareness through learning and appreciating visual and performing arts.

Sports, Fitness and Recreation

Members enjoy a positive use of leisure time, which reduces stress and helps them develop social skills and an appreciation for the environment.
